This book full of poems is inspired by William Carlos Williams's famous poem "This is Just to Say." The poems throughout this book are a hilarious collection of false apology poems. This book shows the perspective of a trickster and how they feel about the jokes they play and the problems they cause. The poem contains fun line art. Throughout the book, the poems take the perspective of different characters. This book is perfect to use in the classroom because it encourages readers to write their own false apology poems. Throughout the book there are references made to sleeping beauty and other fun stories, however, they're not noticeable connections. This book will make kids laugh because they have all been in this position. Many children have had to apologize but may not have truly meant it, therefore hopefully students will be able to relate to these funny poems and will be inspired to write their own! The art also adds to the book! The pages are filled with silly images, will be sure to catch the readers' eye.
The poems are written in fun line art and often use rhyming words as an element of poetry. Some of the poems throughout the book use shape poetry. These poems have an emotional impact on the students because many of them can relate to having to apologize and not meaning it. This poetry is pleasing to the ear and contains appealing word choice to students. The content is very relatable and the images add great visuals to the poems. As a future teacher, I could see myself using this book in order to get my students to enjoy poetry!
